Forevermore’ is about someone that picks you up out of the depth of sorrow and together you share and form a strong intense moment of intimacy and connection. It’s the idea of forever wanting to hold onto that perfect forevermore moment, never wanting the end of time to arrive and become a truthful reality. With the song I’d like the listener to connect these common existential thoughts of nothing ever being forever and somehow learn to except this fact, to see that despite our differences we can find each other in the reality that we all share a vulnerable, heartbreaking, perishable yet beautiful start and ending.

All of these ideas came to me after an eye opening experience I shared during the dark winter days of 2021/2022. Appearing like a light in the darkness. After very personal dimensional experience and listening to Oscar and the Wolf’s the Shimmer album, this song flowed out of me like water into the oceaan. After revisiting this “episodic memory” on a grey rainy day I started recording this song on my laptop in my bedroom. The vocal take I ended up using was a one take that I recorded in the moment with a basic SM58 microphone while lying in bed. I chose this way of recording because I like the way the vocals feel close and intimate, which perfectly reflects the way I feel this song should sound.

I focussed and tried to think of the eternal and what it means in the way of being in a relationship. When writing the first draft of the song I felt submerged in a pool of blue and purple imagining being with someone until the end of time. Holding on to romantic perhaps naive idea that as long as we hold onto each other nothing will break us apart.

As the song starts the the chorus states “come and hold me, until the sun goes down”. Which is inevitable for us here on earth It finally concludes with the line “Until the end of time”, which is a moment in time none of us will ever live nor can imagine what it would look or feel like.

When in love we often seek for the idea of eternity. Which I find a beautiful yet very scary idea as we can’t ever fully grasp the idea of what it would feel or look like, and what if we lose it? How can we cope? With this song I tried to capture these feelings and somehow comfort myself and hopefully the listener too.

Van Elst – Forevermore Lyrics

Oh I found you
In the dark
Behind all bad dreams

See a spark
Walking on the edge of time
In the night
Where we both saw blue

So don’t let me die here
Follow
Me into the night
Forevermore

Come and hold me
Until the sun goes down
You can’t control it
We’re beating the fall

Come and join me
Our virtual legacy
You can’t control it
Just let yourself get lost with me
In our blue memory

Now
You see me
In a bath
Filled with anarchy
Feel our spark
Watch our bodies
As we merge
In the night
Where we both saw blue

Don’t let me die here
Follow
Me into the night
Forevermore

Come and hold me
Until the sun goes down
You can’t control it
We’re beating the fall

Come and join me
Our virtual legacy
You can’t control it
Just let yourself get lost with me
In our blue memory

Episodic memory
I feel your skin on top of me
Feels so soft
I can not breathe
All I wanted to do is to feel your heart
Beating in my ear
Guard you through the night
Beating all the demons
That’ve been hunting our lives

Come and hold me
Until the end of time
You can’t control it
We’re beating the fall

Come and join me
Our virtual legacy
You can’t control it
Just let yourself get lost with me
In our blue memory
