Canadian Duo Wotts Create an Atmospheric Indie Pop Sound with Their Latest Track

Canadian duo Wotts have released their latest single, “wheel”, and have strayed away from their usual 80’s aesthetic while still staying true to the band’s goal of creating music that balances retro with contemporary. According to bassist and guitarist Ricky 100, “Indie Pop is our genre, but I think we’re having a lot of fun with exploring new sounds and really trying to build an atmosphere with our music”.
Jayem, Wotts vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, described “wheel” as staying true to the band’s formula, “Dayglow and Djo have been huge influences of ours. I love that some of their music takes on this modern Beatles like sound. Old mixed with new, at times maximalist, but if you broke it down to just piano and vocal, it would sound just as good. That’s what we were aiming for here”.
The Ottawa, Canada based indie pop duo Wotts is made up of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jayem and bassist and guitarist Ricky 100. Wotts has hit the stages of RBC Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week and Junofest and has received shoutouts for their work from several outlets including CBC Radio (Canada), The Luna Collective (U.S.), Iggy Magazine (France) and Mystic Sons (UK).
Their new single “wheel” is a perfect example of why Wotts have become so successful. The track perfectly balances the nostalgia of their 80’s roots with the contemporary sounds of today.
