Q: What inspired you to make music?

Gabby: Songwriting has always been an inherent part of who I am and a crucial piece to how I feel, process, and communicate. I’ve always been drawn to music and the way it can connect with people on a deeper level.

Q: How would you describe your sound?

Gabby: My sound is influenced by stripped-down versions of my favorite songs or live acoustic sets. I think that has heavily influenced the kind of music I make and plan to make. My hope is to keep honest writing at the center complimented by very intentional yet simplistic production.

Q: What are your plans for future/upcoming releases?

Gabby: For my next project, I plan to release a pop album centered around this past year of my life and heavily influenced by feelings around love, heartache, and stepping out into the unknown.

Q: What has been your proudest moment as a musician so far?

Gabby: Being willing to step into rooms feeling inadequate or unprepared. I truly think one of the coolest things you can ever do as a person is say yes to something regardless of if you feel qualified or not.

Q: How do you plan to keep your fans engaged?

Gabby: My hope is to continue to write from a vulnerable perspective and to continue to connect with listeners in honest ways. I want to be the kind of artist that doesn’t have a green room or a “putting on a mask” moment.

Q: What other genres of music do you enjoy listening to?

Gabby: Pop, Folk, Rock, Jazz, CCM + Gospel.

Q: What elements do you draw inspiration from when creating your music?

Gabby: I let my emotions stay in the driver’s seat, however, setting is also important to me. So as I sit down to write, I may go on my back porch, my stairs, or often my kitchen floors. I move a lot with my music.

Q: What is your music creation process like?

Gabby: I might have a few words or lines stick out to me while I’m driving or doing dishes and I will record them in my phone voice memos. Then later in the day I typically sit down at the piano or with my guitar and pull up a previous voice memo and begin to let my thoughts and feelings unravel from there.

Q: Are there any other musical projects you are currently involved in?

Gabby: Yes! I started a CCM/Gospel group called The Welling Project.

Q: Tell us about your latest release “Disease.”

Gabby: “Disease” is a cinematic love ballad that creatively illustrates two opposing yet similar perspectives of a relationship that has reached its end. The song subtly builds until the tension-filled bridge where we see both individual perspectives colliding in sadness, love, grief, and agreement the relationship is beyond repair. After a few hours of not being able to sleep one night, I sat down at my piano and begin to write what is now the chorus for this song. The next day I shared the beginning of the song with Kingsley Priester, and we very quickly began to piece together the rest of the song. There was no “this is what we are aiming to say or communicate” moment. We didn’t try to force anything with this song, and I think a lot of that

Gabby Donnelly shares the organic and spontaneous process behind the creation of her latest single “Disease”. “I started with the chorus one sleepless night and shared it with Kingsley the next day. We just let the ideas flow without forcing anything. I believe this is reflected in the authenticity of the song.”
