Leti is a Swiss London-based singer and songwriter who makes music that encourages turning within. In her Alt-pop, Leti brings existential inner explorations to life through her atmospheric, electronic beats and contemplative melodies and her authentic, soulful lyrics. Her recent single, “Change is Here” is an uplifting, anthemic track that encourages us to take action on climate change.

Q: What inspired you to make music?

A: In general, I love writing and making music that inspires people to turn within, reflect, and connect with themselves. I also often write about climate change, and with “Change is Here,” I wanted to be a bit more explicit than usual while keeping the general vibe of the song upbeat and energizing. This particular song was initially written as a Eurovision Contest entry for Switzerland and is markedly different from previous releases. I wrote “Change is Here” to create an inclusive, uplifting, and energizing sound. In the production, we worked on creating layered vocals and synths, glimpses of spoken words, infectious drum beats and a simple yet catchy chorus melody leaving the listener with a clear message: “Change is here, we know it, we can’t ignore it”.

Q: How would you describe your sound?

A: I travel across different genres and sounds. However, I refer to my sound as a soulful alternative pop. My tracks are often infused with jazz chord progressions, soundscape and ambient-like synths, electronic elements and expressive backing vocals often used as instruments. “Change is here” is slightly more on the electronic side and carries a bit of anthemic nature.

Q: What are your plans for future/upcoming releases?

A: I have a few more releases coming up in the next few months. I love releasing singles! My next releases are more intimate, introspective songs that express my love and passion for contemplative lyrics and jazz-infused harmonies. A bit different from “Change is here,” but still distinguished by lyrics encouraging the listener to turn within.

Q: What has been your proudest moment as a musician so far?

A: I have so many moments to be grateful for. I think listening to my music on the radio always has a special place in my heart, and receiving the support from Help Musicians this year to develop my music production skills has been incredible, and a moment I am very proud of. Lastly, I am proud to be able to live such a creative life, to have the courage to experiment to travel across genres.

Q: How do you plan to keep your fans engaged?

A: I love doing a lot of stories and reels on Instagram and through my newsletter. I want to stay real and authentic! I love writing and developing genuine relationships with the people who listen to my music. With some of them, I’ve become good friends, and it’s so heartwarming knowing that my music makes a difference in their life. Especially in my newsletter, I love sharing more about my life as a musician, things that I may not share on social media. I believe in the power of authenticity to become closer and connect, ultimately to find joy!

Q: What other genres of music do you enjoy listening to?

A: So many! My favorites though are jazz, soul, atmospheric, and folk. The truth is that I take inspiration from so many genres and so I listen to a lot of different music.

Q: What Elements Do You Draw Inspiration From When Creating Your Music?

A: I draw inspiration from different sources, including poems, politics, and social challenges. But my love for meditation and yoga and its philosophy is also a significant influence. Most of my lyrics talk about existential questions I often contemplate, and simple mundane moments are also full of inspiration for me. I believe that beauty and joy can be found in every little moment.

Q: What Is Your Music Creation Process Like?

A: It depends on the moment and the inspiration I am experiencing. I sometimes write on my piano, which used to be my favourite way of writing, or on the DAW. Generally, though, whether I do this through the DAW or on the piano, I love starting with some musical improvisation. I put down a chord progression and let whatever melody wants to express itself. I love that writing allows creativity to show up exactly how it wants to. So most of the time, I try to create space in my mind and schedule, so there is more space for creativity to express itself! As a creative, I found one of the most important things is to have space and a calm mind to dedicate oneself to their craft.

Q: Are there any other musical projects you are currently involved in?

A: I am currently enrolled in a Master in Songwriting in London, which is my main project, but also developing my songcraft by collaborating with many artists and musicians.

Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and provide further details about them.

A: My next release is a ballad and will be called ‘Orpheus’. It was written to capture the story of Orpheus, a God from Greek Mythology, who went back to the underworld to find his wife and then lost her forever as he turned around to check whether she was behind him. It’s a story about love, trust, and the importance of trusting the process. After ‘Orpheus,’ I have another release coming out called ‘When the rain comes down.’ It’s a piano-led ballad focused on the concept that there is beauty even in the saddest moments of our lives. This year I am also working on new productions, and I am excited to let my sonic identity expand and evolve.

Q: What are your plans besides your artist project?

A: Besides my artist project, I am planning some songwriting and creativity workshops. I am passionate about using songwriting to connect, share and transform stories and talk about things in our life that we may not find the courage to do otherwise.
