DaeMarcus, also known as Adam Araujo, is a Pop Alternative/Indie Pop artist from New Bedford, Massachusetts. With a deep fascination for the way a song can make him feel, DaeMarcus has been dabbling in music since he was five years old. He draws inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences, including artists such as Smashing Pumpkins, Keane, Coldplay, and Linkin Park, as well as rap legends like Biggie Smalls and Kanye West.
In this interview, we dive deeper into DaeMarcus’ musical journey, his creative process, and his plans for future releases.
What inspired you to make music?
DaeMarcus: “I have always had a deep infatuation with how a song made me feel. Then, when I was introduced to the Beatles around 10 years old, the rest is history. I was hooked, and I never looked back!”
How would you describe your sound?
DaeMarcus: “I would sum up my sound, although it truly is very unique and different, as Pop Alternative/Indie Pop to just give something people can understand.”
What are your plans for future/upcoming releases?
DaeMarcus: “Currently, I still work a 9-5, so DaeMarcus is currently moonlighted during the later hours after work. I would love for this to be my full-time gig; however, the bills still have to be paid!”
What has been your proudest moment as a musician so far?
DaeMarcus: “Truly, the latest album ‘Take It Back’ is by far my finest achievement and a culmination of all of the years that have been invested into music in my life showcased. I sit back and listen to this album and am truly amazed and ask myself at points, ‘How did I write this?'”
How do you plan to keep your fans engaged?
DaeMarcus: “By continuing to give the best quality music to my listeners each and every album.”
What other genres of music do you enjoy listening to?
DaeMarcus: “Rock, Post Rock, Rap Rock, Rap, Indie, Pop, Classical, Alternative, 80’s, anything that is GOOD!”
What elements do you draw inspiration from when creating your music?
DaeMarcus: “Feelings are big. It needs to feel right as well as sound right. I like to watch old documentaries of musicians that I like to listen to as well and have a deep respect for, like The Smashing Pumpkins or Linkin Park. I really like to see what their thought process is when they’re making an album and also I like to find the little clues and breadcrumbs that they leave behind that allow me to see when I’m on the right track.”
What is your music creation process like?
DaeMarcus: “Oo boy…daunting! I’m completely alone, so it’s a long process to get an album completed. It usually takes about a year, start to finish. It starts with me just coming up with little riffs that turn into song ideas. When I know the idea is serious, it gets added to the official album ideas pool, and then they begin to get seriously worked on. I don’t write 40 songs and pick 10 for an album. I usually write about 11-12 songs and pick ten, and then the other two that didn’t make the cut usually end up on the next album after they have sat and matured a bit longer. After the ideas and music writing finishes, then the production side of things begins, and I begin working the songs in the DAW. I use Cubase for all of my music.”
