Hallyx wrote the song while she was 100% feeling every word of it. “The feeling of waiting”: waiting for being truly and deeply loved by someone, waiting for being deeply accepted by someone. She was into a hard relationship, and she was feeling so much pain. She was just so disappointed and she started hitting the piano and screaming something so close to what she was feeling… then she started writing the lyrics, and sometimes she was also making fun of the situation, because the pain sometimes can be absurd, tremendously absurd, and you feel like that you are not moving, like in “Waiting for Godot”(Beckett).
Hallyx wrote this song, because she needed a sort of distraction from pain. Falling underground and not understanding a thing because someone is feeding our soul with negative and toxic energies, is not right. Nobody deserve that. The song is a pure love cry, and Hallyx hopes that can be a way out for who’s suffering. Nina Simone said: “You’ve got to learn to leave the table when love’s no longer being served”.

This song was one of the few songs I made during the pandemic, it took me months on end to finish it because I just couldn’t muster the energy to be creative when it felt like my work was crumbling. This is reflected in the lyrics which document my mental state at the time and I think most people can relate to the song in a positive way. I watched myself in real time transform from being active and outside to being restricted to my home and how that changed me. Although the lyrics are heavy the instrumentation is intentionally energetic to communicate the paradox of my current situation. Although I was forced to be a homebody these past few years, I have really been able to connect with myself on a deeper level, and that deserves to be celebrated.

“This whole song is the musical story of my wife Ashley and I’s relationship (‘Take me back to the garden where my heart wasn’t guarded and we whispered under the stars’). We met my freshman year of college and started dating shortly after I suffered a traumatic brain injury. Not many couples experience the hardships of health issues so early in their lives, but it’s something that I am grateful for because it gave us a glimpse of what it means to serve in sickness and in health. The first few years of our relationship were filled with periods of intense growing and stretching, a great deal of which was me learning to put away selfishness and fiery ego for the sake of serving and loving Ashley (“This is my time to grow, so give me a chance to see the fire inside my lungs in the love in the air we breathe”).
We got married after 3 years of dating and honeymooned in Seattle (‘Let’s go back to Seattle where love was like a battle, charging hard on this saddle of life.’). Along the theme of seeds, I’m reminded of the stinging bull nettle seed pod, which is coated in hairs that release a stinging toxin when touched. I had a professor in college who used this as an example of living boldly; when firmly crushed in your palm, the pod doesn’t sting you. (‘I want to live life unsettled, clinging firm to the nettle when the winds try to deepen divides’). I want to live and love boldly, never settling for complacency. This whole song is my reminder to always seek to grow deeper into love.” – Jacob Betts (Lead Vocals)
These two songs are inspired by romances lived by the writer, Dimitri von Büren. They’re guided by an invitation to escape and dream.
As I wrote the songs for my album, I found myself pouring all of my emotions and feelings for this person I had met into them. Each track was a reflection of the whirlwind romance that had taken me by surprise. The lyrics were honest, capturing the essence of how it felt to fall head over heels for someone so unexpectedly, although not based on the actual events ; the message of my album was clear – love can be found in the most unexpected places. It’s not always in the places we think to look, but sometimes it’s waiting for us just around the corner.
I was inspired by pop singers from the fifties both for the vocal side of the song and for the melody, the song has a vintage flavor. The message that I wanted to convey is an almost trivial one, yet so difficult to put into practice. You are complete. You don’t need sweet dreams to run away from yourself, because they’ll be intoxicating at the beginning, but then they will hurt you. Love is everywhere, you don’t have to twist yourself in shapes or deny your needs to get it, the right people will accept you for who you are. I wanted to give to the song this feeling of hope, in contrast with the cynicism of lyrics like Sweet Dreams (are made of this). A window open to the possibility of healing.
Death is inevitable part of the adventure. It is a choice to believe that among the loss it holds keys to freedom and journeys yet to discover.
The song is an outline of the hot, fiery feeling of being stolen from. Outlining the personal feeling of someone — or something — ripping a person off both with material gain, but also the vindictive nature of take, take, take from so many facets of society nowadays.

“b proud” is a self aware, deeply personal track exploring themes of helplessness and inadequacy, woven through a twinkly tapped electric guitar melodies layered over scattery percussion and thumping, rumbly 808s.
Going back to the same love regardless of knowing the negative income.
When I wrote this song I was picturing the scene , two people in a relationship, one person that was willing to do and give anything to the other, and the other one that wouldn’t do as much. Basically, they keep going on in circles of her constantly trying to prove that she was down for him, and she was willing to ‘Show him off’ at any point in time, but to him she was not doing enough, and all her efforts were just a waste, so he left.

Aprile è un brano catartico per me, da molto meditavo di farne una versione mia. Ho cercato di renderla più intima e malinconica rinunciando alla rabbia che c’è nell’originale in favore di una sonorità più sommessa, con un estetica che sa di passato
The song was inspired by a feelings of deep Melancholia, depressions in a post break up world. Things aren’t working out the way you’d like them to be. You wish things could be different. You try to move on but yet you’re being kept prisoner by the need for someone who no longer wishes you.
Cecilia Lara meets three boys during her Erasmus in Aix-en-Provence. This experience was the greatest feeling of freedom and the four kids agreed that they felt as if they were in Neverland, just like Peter Pan, never growing. Lying in the grass, playing guitar and shouting in the forest, the kids would never grow up. Aix and the music they wrote could make time stop forever.

Moments is the second single of Ladylucci’s solo project, after her debut single ‘Different’. The song was written during the pandemic lockdown in 2020, when our individual freedom was taken away and we had a lot of time to spend on our own, think and be introspective. Inspired by that, the song wants to explore the concept of freedom, which can be found in everyday moments of life and simple things like partying, dancing and laughing. It wants to send the message that we truly experience life when we feel free, with freedom being our purpose and our destination in our life path. The HipHop/Trap beat and the sonorities of the song are inspired by 2000s RnB music, as well as the stylistic choices and moodboard of the visuals, inspired by Missy Elliott’s music videos, where choreographies were a key part of the song.
The Romanticism of Teenage Love in “Bonnie and Clyde” by Salads
“Bonnie and Clyde,” a captivating song by Salads, delves into the concept of teenage love, presenting a narrative that encapsulates the essence of romanticism. Through its evocative lyrics, melodic composition, and thematic elements, the song beautifully captures the emotions and experiences associated with young love.
Salads’ “Bonnie and Clyde” presents a narrative that mirrors the iconic story of the outlaw couple, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. However, the song transforms their tale into a metaphor for the passionate intensity and rebellion often associated with teenage love. The lyrics depict a pair deeply connected, willing to defy societal norms and embark on a thrilling journey together. It emphasizes the idea of living in the moment and cherishing the intensity of youthful romance.
The melodic composition of “Bonnie and Clyde” further enhances the song’s portrayal of teenage love. The music is filled with energetic beats, catchy hooks, and a lively rhythm, which mirrors the adrenaline and excitement that often accompany young relationships. The soaring melodies and harmonies evoke a sense of adventure and euphoria, capturing the essence of the youthful spirit.
The song incorporates themes of rebellion, freedom, and the pursuit of an unconventional love story. It highlights the notion of breaking free from societal constraints and embracing the intensity of youthful emotions. The lyrics emphasize the desire to escape mundane routines and limitations, encouraging the listener to embrace the spontaneity and passion of teenage love.
This is a song I’ve always loved, apparently far from my kind of music but actually very close to my sensitivity and my vision. It has a sort of nostalgic and ‘out-of-time’ feel, mainly given by the main vocal melody and the stunning, ‘iconic’ oboe parts. Of course, one of the most challenging aspects was keeping my style without going too far from the original. As for the sound I wanted to pursue, I based my version on acoustic guitar, coupled with a percussion set to give a rhythmic backbone that had a quite epic-folk feel. Violins used for the original oboe parts, another oboe, synths and a clean and reverberated electric guitar used to complete the arrangement and give a sort of dreamy feel. However, I think the turning point of OBITF’s version is represented by vocals, doubling and also tripling in interesting harmonies and combinations.
The desire to make my own version of this song had been in my mind for a lot of years, never to be made concrete until few months ago, when I resolved to take this challenge. What I recorded that day at home was a bare version, but having pretty much all the core elements of the final one. I must say I had quite clear ideas on how it should sound, and in no more than an hour everything was pinned down.
Songs, like people, need time to grow. This record has grown and developed alongside The American Hotel System’s musical journey as a band. It started nearly four years ago over a conversation with producer Jake Rye. Shortly after, the world was hit with the global pandemic and all of the band’s plans came to a halt. The band commented, “We’re grateful for that time as it allowed us to grow and stretch into a better version of ourselves. A year ago, we started pre-production and Jake has walked alongside us throughout the process and helped push these songs to be their best.”
From the existential yearnings of “Can You Hear It?” to the introspective mental health journey of of “Tripping,” this EP explores the complexities of relationships and the impact of our thoughts and emotions. “Fire” ignites with raw intensity, delving into the pain and growth that come from letting go of our egos. In “Seattle,” the band paints a vivid picture of growth, capturing the universal language of love and connection. “21st” reflects on the challenges of navigating the modern world while seeking personal growth and selflessness. Finally, “Not The End” offers a poignant reflection on mortality and the legacy we leave behind.
Once you remove the vail of vanity you can sense the divinity in everything.
The song builds from small fragments to massive irruption
Just like the small things contain infinite beauty also called divinity.

Our Beauty in the Fire – Fear
Concerning the composition history, it all started with the two chords of the verse, leading to the chorus through different variations in the arrangement. While harmonically the chorus followed almost naturally, I spent some time working on a chorus melody able to ‘open up’ the obsessive mood of the verse with its quite dreamy feel. Having benefited from the contribution of different musicians to record some parts (saxophone, drums and percussions), the recording sessions have been multiple and stretched through a pretty long period, until I could find a really satisfying result. Finally, from the thematic point of view, the song explores fear from different perspectives and in its different forms. I think we can’t (and shouldn’t) live apart from or suppress this complex feeling. It is definitely ‘embedded’ in our nature. What scares us of fear is surely its destructive, even annihilating side, but I think we sometimes overlook its potential to foster strength and bring renewal.
