Two best friends, Nicky Buell and Anna Thompson, are pop stars on the rise hailing from Seattle, Washington. SONO announces this incredible collaboration between these two rising artists from Seattle. The rival story of two ex-besties: Inspired by the inflated ego, mean girl aesthetic and outright villainous behavior, this song characterizes the extra vicious falling-out between two best-friends.

They thrive on competition, superficial things and obviously.. yes, the drama. Initially acquiring the idea behind the song Nicky found inspiration from a viral Tik-tok- Scarlet Envy’s #AmITheDrama. Once the song seed was planted and pitched to friends it was immediately conceptualized, written and recorded in just a few weeks. Ultimately this synth heavy, hard-hitting pop anthem will leave you feeling like the main character with a bit of a superiority complex.

Nicky Buell commented: “There’s no other person I’d rather have created a hypothetical- mean girl, girl boss, gaslight, gatekeep type song with. Anna is my bestie and so insanely talented, it’s really cool to see our growth from our first song together ‘Thirsty’ to what we have made now. Love her to death!”.

Nicky Buell Bio

Seattle-based pop artist Nicky Buell is quickly establishing himself as a leading voice in the queer pop scene. He wants the LGBTQ+ community to feel seen and heard. Nicky has collaborated with iconic artists and producers throughout the Pacific Northwest including Phil Peterson (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey), Matthew Wolk (Dempsey Hope, Sam Lachow), and Seattle-based popstar Anna Thompson, his childhood best friend with whom he released ‘Thirsty.’

It was through this song that Nicky would publicly come out at the age of twenty. He followed ‘Thirsty’ with the releases of singles ‘Bromance’ and ‘Moonboy’ off his debut EP ‘Spongy Emerald Prince,’ a project that honors and chronicles his triumphs and heartbreak during his first year as an openly gay man.

Having launched his project just four months ago, he’s already received press from major publications on the West Coast like Rage Robot and The Spokesman-Review. Sonically, Nicky draws inspiration from artists like Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande and John Legend. He not only sits in the pop realm but also bends the genre, adding in the occasional punchy rap verse to elevate his sound. Nicky is an artist you can root for, coming into his own through the creation of fun electronic-tinged pop anthems guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days.

Anna Thompson Bio

Anna Thompson was born to entertain. Sure, loads of kids like to sing, but Anna entertained. When she was small, she fell in love with Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” and, in particular, the song “Part of Your World.” Around the same time, little Anna got hooked on “American Idol.” When Carrie Underwood won Anna realized that it was indeed possible to be a singer as your grown-up job. “Even though I was 3, I knew this was what I was going to be. And I knew I wasn’t going to change my mind.”

When Anna was 16, she was offered a deal and began to work with a major label. While it didn’t end the way Anna hoped, the experience was an invaluable one. “I had the chance to be a sponge and learn everything I could from very talented people. Going to a writing retreat in Seattle in the summer of 2020 was a game-changer. It was there that Anna met “her people” , a network of other musicians from the Seattle area.

Now confident in her songwriting, Anna feels like now it all clicks for her. In fact, she says her EP, CENTERPIECE, virtually wrote itself. So, what’s next for Anna Thompson? Armed with good songs, confidence, and a great team of people to work with, there’s nothing stopping her. “My biggest goal – if there was one goal I ever had – is to write and record someone’s favorite song. I know how much my favorite songs have affected me – how they’ve lifted me up when I needed it. Even if it’s just five people, I hope I can do that.”
