Q: What sparked your interest in creating music?

A: As far back as I can remember, I have loved music. My brothers and I used to dance to the reggae music that my father used to play in the car. I began singing, playing guitar, and producing music when I was about twelve. I eventually became a member of a band and played numerous gigs. Doing music is just how I express myself; I wasn’t particularly inspired to do so at any one time. It just sort of occurred.

Q: Can you describe your sound?

A: My musical style can be characterized as a warm and identifiable fusion of reggae and hip-hop with elements of jazz and rock. We play a lot of brass instruments, which contributes significantly to the tone.

Q: What are your plans for upcoming releases?

A: I’ll be releasing a ton of songs this year. I’ve only published two singles so far, and more are on the way. Also, my debut album ‘Pink Skies’ is slated for release later this year. I spent a lot of time working on this with my producer friend Boudewijn Pleij, and we’re thrilled to be able to share it now. I’m excited to show the world everything we produced because I’m so proud of it.

Q: What has been your proudest moment as a musician so far?

A: I’ll be honest; I’ve had a lot of reasons to feel proud. Every time I compose or record a song that precisely expresses how I feel, which is what music is all about for me, I feel proud and appreciative. But the best thing is to perform live on stage. I feel proud and humbled when everything comes together and I can see that the audience is experiencing what I am. It’s a special experience, and I am glad for those moments.

Q: How do you plan to engage your fans?

A: I hope my audience can relate to my songs. I have poured my heart and soul into it, and if they feel it, they will hopefully be involved. I intend to perform a lot of gigs after my record is published because a live performance is the most effective approach to interact with listeners and artists alike.

Q: What other genres of music do you enjoy listening to?

A: I listen to a lot of different genres. Currently, I enjoy listening to Marcus Gad, Khruangbin, Salif Keita, and Tinariwen.

Q: What inspires your music creation process?

A: I get my ideas from everyday life. I write about both my opinions on society and my own experiences. My primary form of expression is through music, and I attempt to convey my perspective on life through my songs. Listening to my own songs can occasionally act as a form of therapy by allowing me to better understand who I am. There are many aspects of life that can serve as inspiration.

Q: What is your music creation process like?

A: My creative approach is constantly evolving. I sometimes begin writing to a beat that I create or that Boudewijn sends me. Other times, when relaxing on the beach, I get an idea for one sentence and build upon it. It’s beautiful because it’s constantly different.

Q: Can you tell us more about your upcoming releases?

A: I’ll be releasing a lot of songs this year. My upcoming single, “Gazing” a hip-hop song with the soul and familiar Gus Walker sound, will be published together with my debut album. I’m grateful for your support and appreciate you having me. I’m excited to share more with you and I hope to meet you all in person on stage soon. Step out with me.

Gus Walker commented: “Thanks for having me and I appreciate you all for listening to and supporting my music. I can’t wait to share more with you and I hope to see you all live on a stage somewhere around the world. Walk with me.”

Don’t miss out on Gus Walker’s new single, “Gazing” and follow him on his journey to spread his message of love and unity.
