Swedish alternative band Principe Valiente has announced their new album, “In This Light,” representing the most important development of their artistic output to date. Coming out on May 3rd, 2024, via Metropolis Records, the album presents a sound matured over many years.
In This Light. boasts 10 obsessively crafted tracks, on which the band further demonstrates its mastery of blending ethereal, shimmering soundscapes with a dark, ambient allure. Since they first emerged on the indie pop scene with their self-titled debut album in 2011, this has been Principe Valiente’s watermark.
The album is lush—nearly opulent in sound. Bordering the mellotrons and samplers are a plethora of analog synths—a kind of celestial refraction off Jimmy Ottosson’s 12-string Rickenbacker and Gretsch guitars. The sounds are added to with a melodic piano, a driving bassline, all shrouded in the enigmatic voice of singer Fernando Honorato.
With the release of singles “Something New” and “Inspired By Me,” Principe Valiente points to a move in a poppier and more direct direction. This development again testifies to the adaptability of the band to quite different musical corners without leaving its own identity.
