Rock fans everywhere are in for a treat with the debut single by Rochester-based band Into the Light. ‘Manuscript’ is a driving and atmospheric song that infuses elements of post-rock, indie, and shoegaze standards. With its catchy vocals and shimmering guitars, the song takes the listener on a journey through a sonic landscape that’s both expansive and intimate.
Formed in 2022, Into the Light is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Adam Vernick (or Hard to Know/Bad Bloom), Mike Barnes (of The Silence Broken), guitarist Rob Antonucci (of Achilles/Hard to Know) and Jay Trovato (of Bad Bloom). The band draws inspiration from shoegaze and post-rock legends such as Failure, Quicksand, and Catherine Wheel.
The song’s lyrics are based on the book ‘Herzog’ by Saul Bellow, which Adam Vernick provides some insight on: “The main character struggles with his mental health and pretends to write letters to famous people or people in his own life. In most of these letters, he’s really expressing disappointment in himself. To me, there’s an element of humor in the lyrics while also referencing the struggles most people have to keep our heads right in these challenging times.”
The band’s sound is an impressive blend of shoegaze, indie rock, and post-rock, and ‘Manuscript’ is a great introduction to the band’s style and message. The track showcases the band’s ability to seamlessly blend the traditional elements of rock with modern elements, creating an exciting and unique sound. ‘Manuscript’ is available now on Spotify and all major streaming platforms.
