Birthdayboy Unveils New Single “Tamagotchi”: A Reflective Take on Toxic Relationships

Young emerging indie band Birthdayboy, fronted by the enigmatic Alyssa Rodriguez, and flanked by her bandmates Marc and Ellie, unveil their new single, “Tamagotchi.” Further highlighting their mesmerizing and original creative unity, it’s a track that looks to delve deeper into the dynamics of toxic relationships with catchy lyrics set to a vibrant melody.

Birthdayboy was formed in the most unorthodox way during Covid, with Rodriguez and Ellie meeting through an online AA meeting. Their musical journey began from personal poems and shared musical projects, while later on, Marc joined to complete the lineup.

The band members have created a mysterious image while performing incognito, building a thematic element within their music.

Musical influences: African, Latin, rock Inspired by the likes of Dominic Fike, Halsey, and Billie Eilish, Birthdayboy combines divergent styles that can be said to be introverted and experimental. Doing that perfectly in their latest single “Tamagotchi,” the track is exactly a sonic delve into personal struggles and relationship dynamics.

This is what the metaphor of the famous digital pet is all about. It’s talking about the addictive nature of toxic relations, basically meaning the cycle of abuse and deep necessity from need for a healthier relationship with self and others. She said that the track was a form of closure to a tough chapter in her life.

Recorded mostly in Marc’s bedroom and partly at Amplified Studios in Carlsbad, “Tamagotchi” reveals an artistic work that bears the band’s DIY ethos and their rawness to the utmost, giving it their best to find the most authentic way to express artistic clarity. Like so much before it, the song was inspired by a mix of personal events and the space for musical exploration.

For Rodriguez, who is currently away in rehab, working on her mental issues, the release of “Tamagotchi” gives her something to look forward to. Nonetheless, amidst all the personal struggles, she looks optimistically toward the impact of the song.

“This song kind of is a nice ribbon on a chapter I’m ready to put behind me,” said Rodriguez.
