At a time when much modern music production is, arguably, too polished, Kinsley Grey introduces a raw and unfiltered new voice at its edges with “Broken Sequence,” the debut single from the one-woman powerhouse who took charge of everything from songwriting and singing to mixing and production.

With inspiration from a variety of artists including Katie Kross, Defaults, Venturing, and Daisy Adams, “Broken Sequence” pays ode to the lo-fi vibe. This was reflective of Grey’s great reverence toward her friends’ music and those other admired artists that create the ambiance both nostalgic and never-done-beforely hers.

“Broken Sequence” is not really a song, but a window to an inside world, capturing a whirling of feeling and thoughts. The single was recorded in the sanctuary of her very own bedroom, a testament to what can be achieved with talent, vision, and a DIY ethos. Born out of a spontaneous burst of creativity, the track was spawned overnight, marking the bold entrance of Grey into the music scene.

Grey may be a one-woman show, but the ambition and required focus in her artistry would suggest that she’ll be one to watch. With all-new singles released on March 2024 and a brand-new EP for April 2024, this has proved to be a year full of great expansion and exploration for Grey.

Although Kinsley Grey has yet to take her music to stages or to appear on radio/television, she has managed with this release to span an extraordinary amount of territory. “Broken Sequence” is Grey’s debut release, but within it lives all the depth and resonance of an old hand. As Grey herself puts it, “Broken Sequence is a glimpse into my inner world, and I hope it finds a place in yours.”

It promises to throw the listener headlong into the immersive world of Kinsley Grey, where vulnerability meets the artistry of her lo-fi sound. More than a debut, “Broken Sequence” is a plunge into something incredibly new and audacious for indie music.
